Mt. Herman

Friday, July 3, 2009.

We hiked up Mt. Herman trail 716. This was an easy/moderate hike according to our "The Best Colorado Springs Hikes" book. I would agree, most of the hike was uphill, but easy. One section was a pretty tough climb. I would rate that particular section 5 (out of 10) hiking sticks for difficulty and the rest of the trail 2 hiking sticks. A 2.1 mile round trip distance gaining 1,000 feet. Top of the mountain is at an elevation of 9063 feet. The road leading to the trail head is a rough one, but worth the effort. Parking spots are scarce, so get there early. The views from the top were amazing. An added bonus, thousands of ladybugs at the top of the mountain! Once at the bottom, we encountered a man with unique hiking buddies, 2 goats. His two pet goats love to hike the trails along with him.

View the Mt. Herman slideshow to see some of the many photos from this hike.

Happy Hiking,

Cindy
